Clearly it takes a lot of effort but I am not sure about the cost. It does means extra cost, that is for sure. But in my experience, with 3 children, the hardest bit is not the extra cash, it's the effort that the dad is making in sticking to the one parent one language rule, espeically as he is the only vector of his own language. That's where the biggest cost and effort is (plus of course spending all our holidays back in his country, leaving little to no choice for the holidays :) )

Of course, raising bilingual children takes time, huge effort — and lots of money. But from my parenting experience (I am mother of 3 kids) I would like to say that it makes sense to do this. Believe me that all these efforts will be definitely crowned with success in the end.

Hola! Saludos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWbO4oeTuyk

Hi, great information on raising a bilingual child. I use the net as a small part of my son's language discovery. He is 3.6 years old and he speaks Chinese and English fluently. I'm introducing Spanish into his diet. He's a little experiment because his brain is like a sponge. It's challenging and fun to see him discover a language. I wish I had his brain.....
